Compliance
API 660.
American Petroleum Institute (API) Standard 660, Shell-and-Tube Heat Exchangers, is written for the petroleum, petrochemical, and natural gas industries. PlutoHX designs to it together with ASME and TEMA.
Three codes together
Where API 660 fits.
PlutoHX is described by three codes together. ASME Section VIII, Division 1 governs the pressure design; TEMA sets the construction, the classes, and the types; API 660 is the standard for shell-and-tube exchangers in the industries the reference exchanger comes from.
The reference exchanger
A crude exchanger.
The exchanger used throughout this site is a crude exchanger, with liquid on the shell side and on the tube side: the kind of service API 660 is written for. For petroleum and related processing, TEMA has Class R.
On your own project
We would be glad to go through how PlutoHX applies API 660 to your own exchangers in a live demo.
Coming Winter 2026
We would be glad to show you PlutoHX.
PlutoHX launches at the end of this year. A live demo shows how it fits the way your team works.
Visit us at the booth for a deep dive into PlutoHX.
