Feature
Material properties, ready to use.
The material database holds ASME Section II materials with their allowable stresses, so you can find a material, compare it, and apply it to a component.

In the database
Some of the materials you will find.
| Specification and grade | Product form |
|---|---|
| SA-516 Grade 70 | Plate |
| SA-106 Grade B | Seamless pipe |
| SA-240 316L | Plate |
| SA-333 Grade 6 | Seamless pipe |
| SA-182 F316L | Forging |
| SA-179 | Seamless tube |
Allowable stresses come from ASME Section II, Part D.
How you use it
Search, compare, apply.
- SearchFind a material by its specification, grade, UNS number, or P-number.
- ComparePut materials side by side before you choose.
- ApplyApply the material to a component of the design, and its properties follow it into the calculations.
In the reference exchanger
Plate for the shell, seamless tube for the bundle.
The reference exchanger uses SA-516 Grade 70N carbon steel plate for the shell and SA-179 seamless cold-drawn low-carbon steel for the tubes. The UG-27 teaching example on this site takes its allowable stress of 20,000 psi for SA-516 Grade 70, up to 650°F, from ASME Section II, Part D.
Coming Winter 2026
We would be glad to show you PlutoHX.
PlutoHX launches at the end of this year. A live demo shows how it fits the way your team works.
Visit us at the booth for a deep dive into PlutoHX.
